Counting up on The Top 10 List Of Things YOU Can Do To Create World Peace,
we now explore #5 which is . . .
Smile
Yes, show those pearly whites to everyone.
The nice thing about a smile is that you never have to worry about leaving it at home.
I also heard that a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks. We know this to be true. Have you seen someone walking around with a smug face, and thought they weren't so attractive, and yet when they smiled, they became attractive?
A smile is also contagious. We've all heard that before. I've noticed that when I smile at someone who appears to be in a hurry or stressed out, they still smile back.
Not only is a smile a wonderful gift to give someone else, it is a wonderful gift to give yourself. There have been studies that show that a smile releases endorphins into your bloodstream which make you feel good. Tony Robbins, a motivational speaker, once said "fake it till you make it." He even pointed out that by purposefully smiling or laughing when you feel depressed, you can change your mood.
In our playshops, "Embracing a Peaceful Earth: One Peace at a Time," we have the audience go beyond smiling to the point of intense laughter. We perform a laughing exercise in which we feel the energy in the room before we start, and we then have the audience laugh outloud, "Ho Ho, Hee, Hee, Ha, Ha," and belly over with that laughter for 30 seconds.
After we do this exercise, we feel the energy in the room, and it is very high. So if you want to take smiling to the next level, try consciously laughing. It is a tool that you have available to you at any moment.
If you have a hard time just laughing. Find something to laugh about. Watch a funny movie, remember a joke, recall a funny experience. One of the most important keys about laughter is the ability to laugh at yourself.
I provide myself with ample opportunities all the time. When I am laughing about something really hard I tend to snort, and if I hear myself do this I begin to laugh harder.
Have you ever just heard someone laughing, not knowing what they were even laughing about, and just started laughing yourself? It's contagious as well.
Who said, "laugh and the world laughs with you"? It's so true. To be creating a more peaceful and loving world, starts with our outward expression of peace and love. Most often that is conveyed in a smile. Also, in order to be creating a peaceful world, and not getting so stressed or irritated it is important to laugh at ourselves, and other things we find funny to not take everything so seriously.
