Supply
Think right now about an orange tree. What does an orange tree do? Produce oranges. But what about the times when the orange tree is not producing oranges? Do we doubt that it will ever produce oranges? No, we’re pretty sure that even though we don’t see oranges at the moment that the orange tree will produce oranges. What if we looked at our financial situation in the same way?
Since June 2001, when I quit a lucrative career in Medicine to pursue my passion for writing and speaking, I have had numerous “opportunities” to look at the issue of abundance and the law of supply.
During the last two years there have been many times when I’ve been really scared, desperate, and fearful wondering how I would make my rent, how I would print copies of my book, how I would sustain myself.
“I need to manifest abundance, so that I can continue doing what I am doing,” I would say to myself.
I then made a strong commitment to really focus—by way of affirmations and visualizations—on attracting and manifesting abundance in my life so that I could continue pursuing my writing and speaking career.
One of my affirmations was: “Money and circumstances easily and effortlessly flow to me.” Then, during my visualizations I would vividly picture money flowing to me, easily and effortlessly. But what’s wrong with this picture?
I realized that I had it all backwards. Instead of money flowing to me, it was really flowing through me if I would just allow it to happen.
The mere affirmation that “money flows to me,” implies that I do not have money. That I am in a state of lack---a state of being “without.”
The very thing that I was trying to “draw to me,” I was actually repelling by focusing my energy on the lack.
Quantum Physics tells us that the world is but a reflection back to us, of what we project or what we believe. If you “see” and know and believe abundance, you create that reality for yourself. When you affirm lack, you experience lack.
I know these spiritual Truths from my years of studying spirituality, but I hadn’t realized that by the simple affirmation and visualization that money was “flowing to” me, that I was affirming and concentrating on the lack of money in my life.
Then I read a passage in Joel Goldsmith’s book, The Infinite Way, which really got me thinking about this whole concept of “flowing to” versus “flowing through.”
Think back to the example of the orange tree. Goldsmith says that the oranges (the fruit) are representative of the effects of the supply and that the “supply” is actually the Tree. So the oranges are the “effects” and the tree is the “supply.”
Many of us think that the oranges are the supply, but the oranges are not the supply because once they are gone, from either being picked or from falling off the tree, new oranges start to grow. If the oranges were the supply, when they were gone, they’d be gone. The oranges themselves cannot create other oranges. The tree which is the “law” or “supply” is actually working through its root systems to produce more oranges. The “law of supply” is always in effect continually working through the tree to produce more oranges. “The orange is the result or effect of the operation of the law acting in, through, and as the orange tree,” says Goldsmith.
Now what happens when we look at the orange tree and don’t see any oranges on it; do we fret and freak out? No, we know that the tree is in the process of producing more oranges.
“Let us agree now to see that just as we need take no thought for oranges as long as we have the source or supply which is continually producing fruit for us, so we need no longer take thought about dollars. Let us learn to think of dollars, as we do of leaves on trees or oranges, as the natural and inevitable result of the law active within. There is truly no need to be concerned even when the trees appear to be bare, as long as we are conscious of the truth that the law is even now operating within to bring forth fruit after its own kind,” says Goldsmith.
Goldsmith further adds, “Within you and within me, there is also a law in operation—a law of life—and our awareness of the presence of this law is our supply. Money and the things necessary for daily living are the effects of the consciousness of the activity of the law within. This understanding enables us to take thought off the things of the outer world and abide in the consciousness of the law.”
“Regardless of the state of our finances at any given moment, let us not be concerned or worried because we now know that the law acting in, through, and as our consciousness is at work within us, when we are asleep as well as when we are awake, to provide all those added things,” he concludes.
So the affirmation I was using; “money easily flows to me,” was like being the orange tree saying that oranges easily flow to me. That would be like the orange tree waiting for someone to add oranges to its branches. Whereas, the affirmation that “money is flowing through me,” is equivalent to the orange tree producing oranges easily and effortlessly by just allowing the law (nature) to take place.
We are like the orange tree in the sense that we inherently have all that we “need” or desire within us. We only need to allow it to express through us.
A powerful affirmation and visualization that I use now if I start to “fret” about finances is: I visualize the orange tree. I visualize myself as the orange tree. I affirm that the law of the Universe is consistently working through me to express my highest good. I affirm that even though I may not see “abundance” that I know the law of supply is working through me to produce exactly what I need for my expression.
When I am able to get to this place of knowing and trusting in the abundance of the Universe--the Universe supplies me with all that I need. I have experienced so many times when I thought I was lacking and then affirmed the Truth, and then received a refund check in the mail, or a gift from a parent, or some other form of unexpected income. And I have been able to sustain myself for the last four years, doing what I love.
I would like to conclude with a final quote from Joel Goldsmith, “All of the good necessary to our welfare will be supplied to us in greater abundance than we can accept when we give up the effort and desire to get, achieve, or accomplish, and come more into the consciousness of desiring only to fulfill our destiny on earth. We are Consciousness fulfilling and expressing Itself in an individual way, and if we will learn to keep our thought away from ourselves and away from the fear that we will be without place or income or health, and let God fulfill Its destiny through us or as us, we will really find all things added unto us.”
I had realized an important distinction that enabled me to shift from trying to draw circumstances to me, to just allowing things to unfold through me.
