When Gandhi said, “BE the change you want to see,” I believe that he meant that by “being” peaceful you create peace. Peace is really a state of consciousness that starts at the individual level than becomes part of the collective whole. We are realizing that the Universe is holographic, that is to say that the sum of all the parts make the whole. So, you and I are parts of this collective whole. What part are we to play? What is our role?I believe that our role, or mission in life is to embrace who we are. We are all wonderful expressions of the Divine, God, or whatever you choose to label that Infinite, Limitless, Miraculous energy flowing through you as you.
Our true essence is Love, Peace, Happiness, Joy, Abundance, Health, and Prosperity, which I call our Divine Self. Yet, sometimes we forget. Sometimes we let our Little Self take over. Our little self is the ego, the side that is full of fear, limitations, and negativity.
So for me, World Peace is when each and every one of us is embracing and exuding that Divine Self.
What are some simple steps we can take to live in that loving, joyful, peaceful state? Well, there are ten simple things you can do to create a peaceful presence in your immediate world and therefore, all over the world.
Each month for the next ten months we will look at ONE thing you can do immediately and consistently to create World Peace and we will explore that issue in detail. This is #10 on the TOP 10 List of Things YOU can do to Create World Peace.
#10 PLAY
I was discussing the concept of play in every day life with my creative partner, Mark Olmstead, and he came up with an acronym for PLAY, which I thought was brilliant. The Presence of Love Active in YOU. (P.L.A.Y.)
When we think of play we often think of children. Children, when they play are so full of Love, Life, Innocence and Joy, that it is amazing to watch them.
As adults, many of us have lost the capacity to play. We’re over worked, stressed, or we have too many responsibilities and not enough time. But what many of us forget is that if we added play time to our schedule, we’d be more productive, happier and healthier individuals.
Medical and Scientific research has documented the power of laughter in treating patients with illness or depression, and workplaces have documented employee productivity in positive, nurturing work environments and yet we still often forget to include play in our daily lives.
I’ve noticed, at my speaking engagements or in talking with people during my book signing tours, that people are way too serious. They have forgotten how to have fun.
Well, there is a Presence of Love Active in You (P.L.A.Y) right now. What would that Presence of Love have you do?
If you stopped and listened to that Presence of Love, would it tell you to go play on the swing, go to a drive-in movie, go on a camping trip, roller blade along the boardwalk, play a game, paint a picture, color a drawing, write a poem, star gaze, run through the sprinklers, tickle someone, laugh out loud, dance in the rain, make a sand castle, or do cartwheels?
I guarantee that the child in you, or the Presence of Love in you, is waiting to come out and play. Remember when you were little how someone would come to your house and ask your parents, “Can Lisa come out and play?” Well, ask yourself that now, “can (Your Name) come out and play? Then give that child side of yourself the permission to play.
Start by incorporating “Play” into your schedule. It may be once a month or once a week at first, then once you realize the benefits of playing you may incorporate it into your life on a daily basis.
I do something playful every day, whether it is playing with my cats for a few minutes, running through a sprinkler during my walk, singing or dancing, watching a movie, or even playing with myself by laughing and not taking myself so seriously.
September 11th has awakened us to the fact that our existence in this human form may cease at any moment. Since you don’t know when your transition will be, would you rather spend your time playing or working late at the office? And, if you have to work late at the office, can you somehow make it playful for yourself and those around you? Every moment is precious. Remember that Presence of Love Active in You, and ask yourself how can I express it?
Do the things that bring you joy in your life, and do them frequently. Play whole- heartedly with the innocence and creativity of a child. I know that you and those around you will notice the difference and the world will laugh and play along with you.
Wheresoever you go, go with all your heart. ~Confucius
