If you were to sit down and make a list of the negative things happening around the globe, you could create a whopper of one.For starters, there's the never-ending war in Iraq, mad cow disease, H5N1 bird flu, systematic erosion of liberties, malnutrition and starvation, global warming, poverty, corrupt politicians and CEOs, depleted uranium - the list goes on. I'm sure you can come up with several items of your own to add to the pile.
A person inclined to pessimism or depression would surely never get out of bed in the morning if he or she focused on the woes facing us as members of the human race.
Some people even swear we're living in the "end times," never mind that countless others throughout the centuries have insisted that they were living in the end times as well.
Yes, we have our challenges today, there's no doubt about it. But hardships have never stopped brave individuals and groups from taking action and creating positive change.
Instead of sitting back and letting someone else do all the work, each and every person needs to band together and make this world a better place - if not for us, then for our children.
Whatever has gone wrong around the globe can be addressed and transformed. Relying on politicians or government officials to take care of everything has resulted in too many of us closing our eyes to reality.
It's time for us to vote out the officials who don't share our interests. For too long, they've decided what was best for us without even listening to we, the people.
So what's right with the world?
The people of all nations have courage, strength, and the ability to come together to make a difference. People are inherently good, with caring hearts and compassion for others.
The goodness of the people can overcome all the lies, corruption, and wars fought in our name. The strength of the people can help to erase many of the negatives from my list.
In the ordinary, everyday person lies a great power, perhaps still slumbering, but now stirring to awaken. And that power, wisely used, can truly transform this planet.
