The Courage Of Conviction

Whether or not you agree with what Cindy Sheehan has to say about the war in Iraq, the fact is she has every right to say it. (Cindy Sheehan, the courageous mother of deceased soldier Casey Sheehan, has been camped outside of the president's Texas ranch in Crawford, demanding to speak with him about his justification for starting the war in Iraq.)

Cindy Sheehan has begun to galvanize citizens from across the country and around the globe with her efforts to stop the war and bring the troops home. Her courage in standing up for what she believes in can be a shining example for us all. By speaking out, Ms. Sheehan gives us hope that one person can indeed make a difference in the world.

You, too, can do the same in your own daily life. Instead of quietly accepting things that are unacceptable, you can muster up some courage and face your challenges, rather than sweeping them under the rug and hoping they'll just disappear.

Whistleblowers and activists aren't the only ones who need courage to make positive changes. Everyday people have to summon up nerve just to change careers or move to a new city. The unknown can be scary, and it's tempting to keep the status quo although deep in your heart you know it's time to make a change.

Courage comes in different shapes and sizes. The trick is to know when you need to call upon the hero in you in order to make your life better. By taking action toward your goals, you will increase your courage, step by step. And maybe one day you, too, will be able to stand up before the world and speak with the courage of your convictions, like Cindy Sheehan did in the hot August sun in Crawford, Texas.
