In the wake of the tragedies in the United States, many people are going through a period of deep soul searching. Individuals, such as television host Geraldo Rivera, are making substantial life and career changes. In his case, Rivera left his beloved but comfortable CNBC television show for a more stimulating position in the war zone with Fox News. Rivera said that the country’s multiple disasters led him to reassess his life, and thus prompted him to make a major career move. For many, the day of the attacks on America has been a grand wakeup call to take action on things they’ve always intended to do. Realizing that life can change or even end in the blink of an eye, people are starting their lives over with a new symbolic birthday of September 11th. Now people are more apt to make that career transition, relationship change, or relocation. And now more than ever, individuals are finding out that job security is up in the air, as their once-profitable companies go belly-up seemingly overnight.
In our book, Grow Your Own Love, Wayne and I talk about the fact that you have a choice as to how you progress on your path of personal growth. You do not have to undergo some major challenge or trauma in order to make great spiritual strides. However, some of us choose to take on big obstacles in order to grow faster! And there are others who have mastered their challenges, and have reached what some would call enlightenment.
We don’t need to suffer to achieve tremendous growth in our personal and professional lives. All we have to do is to have a sincere desire to make positive change, and the way will be made clear. “When the student is ready, the teacher will come.” The teacher who arrives may be none other than your own inner wisdom, tapping you patiently on the shoulder to get your attention!
No matter where you are in the area of personal and spiritual growth, you would do well to practice a little inner contemplation. In our hectic lives, there is nothing more calming and insightful than the act of going within, if only for a few minutes each day. If I were to point to the one thing that has transformed my life completely, it would be the time I spend meditating. Inner contemplation leads to so much more than a peaceful demeanor. It brings you guidance you can put to use in your daily life, thus saving you time and energy.
So whether you are content to remain exactly where you are in the wake of the tragedies, or choose to go off to a new career or personal adventure, take the time to tune in to the one who cares about you the most—your own inner guide. You’ll be assisted in any transition you undertake, and your steps are sure to be steady ones.
